Volvo Europa Truck

In 1964 the Volvo Group started producing trucks in Alsemberg near Brussels. In 1975 a complete new factory was inaugurated in Oostakker near Gent for the production of the medium range.

Although the plant was intended to build only the medium trucks, it was quickly decided that heavy trucks as well would be built in Ghent.

Today Volvo Europa Truck assembles more than 35.000 trucks/year. The factory is Volvo Trucks' largest truck assembly plant in Europe building the complete European Volvo range (except for the FH16) and is the unique producer of the medium range for the whole world.

In Belgium Volvo Europa Truck is still the only truck producer and plays an important role in the automotive business of the country. In 2007 the plant will start building wind turbines and a new biomass-based heating system and therefore become the first CO2 free company in Belgium.
