What is your current graduate position at the Volvo Group? What do you do in your daily job?

My graduate position is Project Manager Manufacturing Engineering. My tasks differ every day since I am currently in job rotation. Over the past few months I have worked in different roles, for example as assembler quality controller, test engineer and so on. Now I am accompanying the project leaders in my own deportment and learning how to work in the industrial projects.

Why did you choose the Volvo Group International Graduate Programme?
I have always wanted to have an international career because of my background, working in a global company like Volvo really met my interest. The international graduate programme is a very good start for a newcomer to the company. The programme was set up in order to provide a proper understanding of the whole Volvo Group, as well as good insight into different parts of the organisation. Together with the three months abroad assignment, the programme provides a unique opportunity to broaden my view and build an international network within the organisation.
How has your career with the Volvo Group been thus far?
So far so good.  The trainee programme offers many possibilities for me to work with different people and to adapt to different environment. Working in various positions really helps me to understand the company and see my job from different angles. Every day in the programme I meet new colleagues and learn new skills. There are a lot of kind colleagues who are happy to share their experience. I appreciate the knowledge and the network I’ve had in the programme.

If you were to recommend Volvo Group as an employer, what would you put forward?
Diversity, the size of the company and the working atmosphere. Volvo offers a truly diversified work environment, we work with colleagues from all around world on a daily basis. The open working atmosphere provides opportunities for a fresh graduate to learn things fast. Another thing I really appreciate is the mentorship, I could discuss almost everything with my mentors and they always give me advice and this is very valuable for a fresh man in the company.

Could you describe your best experience from being part of the Volvo Group International Graduate Programme?
There are a lot of things I want to include here, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Job rotation. During the job rotation period I had opportunities to work within the areas that I could never have imagined before. As I said, it helps me understand the company and see my job from different angle. There is a Chinese proverb that says: “Stones from other hills can be used to polish my jades”. The experience and advice I got from different jobs will help my project management work.

What are your goals, plans and hopes for the future?
I really enjoy coordinating things and making sure things get done. I would like to become a project manager in the near future. In the long term, I would like to work abroad for a while, hopefully in China in order to utilise my language ability as well as my understanding of East Asian culture.
