1. In which program did you participate?
I started the Volvo CE Trainee program in august 2000, directly after my university graduation
2. Why were you interested in participating in a Volvo Group Graduate Program?
For two reasons! First off all I was studying at Chalmers University in Mechanical Institution and our main contributor and sponsor was Volvo. They provided us with brand new engines to test and study and they were always willing to support us even for the 'out of classroom' activities. All students have very good associations to Volvo Group thanks to their involvement in the university activities. Secondly, I wanted to start my career in a large and international company where I had many options for the future since I did not really know what I wanted to do - university and reality is in many ways two different worlds. The Volvo Group Trainee program therefore became the perfect start for me.
3. Tell us something about your experience in the program -- what did you like about it? Anything you didn't like?
The trainee program is a great opportunity and experience. It allows the trainee to try various areas (I did purchasing, after sales, production and product planning) and get a better feeling for what area is suitable to go for. It also gives you a contact network which otherwise would take years to build and which has helped me a lot, for my career but also in my day to day activities. I can't se anything I do not like with the program. A few trainees had problems finding suitable tasks and it is very important that the departments which receives trainees spend the time required to find these task but it is also a responsibility for each trainee to contact their new departments in due time to discuss how they can contribute.
4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group?( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
International, informal and open minded
5. Based on your own experience, why do you think someone should consider working for a Volvo Group company?
Volvo Group gives tremendous possibilities especially for persons which come directly from school, independent of level. Once you have started at Volvo Group you have unlimited opportunities which few companies can offer. By time you always have the option to change your direction or to try something new to widen the horizons. There is also a great support with various trainings offered depending on the employees needs; Volvo offers you the tools and the support you need. You can spend a lifetime within Volvo Group and still find new opportunities and challenges.
