Volvo 3P’s mission essentially defines what we as a company intend to achieve:

“To propose and develop profitable products to ensure a strong competitive offer for each Volvo Group truck company, based on common vehicle architecture and shared technology.”

We are organized in five synchronized functions responsible for product planning, product development, purchasing and project management. Each function is represented at our various locations and applies global processes and methods.

Our scope
The complete truck tractor, minus the driveline, plus related services. This is our principal scope of supply.

This means that our expertise covers basically every field of vehicle engineering, including electrical and electronics engineering, as well as product strategy and supplier management.

We are young
3 of 10 Volvo 3P employees are under the age of 34. Gender diversity is progressing positively and currently 1 of 5 employees is a woman.

We operate at eight geographic sites around the world. This of course opens an array of possibilities in terms of global career development for our employees.

Considering the size and niche of our company, it is fair to say that Volvo 3P is the largest development organization in its field. And through effective knowledge sharing we ensure that our capabilities are optimally utilized.

Developing exciting solutions
The products and solutions we develop all aim at making transport more efficient. Today, and even more so in the future, cost per ton kilometre is not, and will not be, the best measure of efficiency. Instead an efficient transport solution is a sustainable one.

Sophisticated safety systems, enhanced energy efficiency, fuel-saving features and transport management systems are all examples of technologies that Volvo 3P has developed to promote sustainable mobility. We have also actively contributed to developing hybrid technology, quiet trucks for urban areas and engines for alternative fuels.

Focused on the future 
An increasing focus is put on developing value-adding services. These typically combine technologies from many different sources in order to deliver sophisticated and customized services to vehicle drivers, fleet owners and other customer groups.

We design and develop tomorrow’s transport solutions. Much of our research aims at meeting the requirements that will be imposed by customers and society 5–10 years from now.

Collaboration within and outside of the Group
We work together with Volvo Powertrain, Volvo Technology and other Volvo Group Business Units and provide expertise in key areas.

Also, we collaborate with universities, research centres and industry partners to assess and develop new technologies and concepts. Read more under Key collaborations.

Moreover, we create long-term savings for the Group through strategic collaboration with suppliers.
