Energy Conversion & Physics

Energy Conversion & Physics department works with research and development of engine and driveline related concepts, technologies and methods.

It operates as an integrated part of the development process of Volvo Powertrain and the different business areas in the Volvo Group as well as Volvo Car Corporation. The work is mainly carried out in projects on an assignment basis, ranging from product development support to design of concept vehicle, and also services of research and front line technology.

The department is actively involved in R&D of combustion, fluid dynamics, emission control, fuel cell and electrical hybrid vehicle technologies. An important part of this work is the development of methods for simulation, concept evaluation and testing. Furthermore, the department participates in EU, US and nationally funded projects, many of them in cooperation with universities.
