The Volvo Group recently presented its new technology in the field of safer, more efficient transport at the large international transport congress, the ITS. “This is an important forum at which we
can make ourselves visible and establish ties with important people,” says Mats Rosenquist, Volvo Technology.

The ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) World Congress is organised every year by ERTICO, a public-private partnership organisation linked to the transport industry and the EU.

The congress alternates between Europe, North America and Asia and this was the 16th time it had been held. The host on this occasion was Sweden and Stockholm. The Volvo Group has taken part in all the ITS congresses and, this year, it was one of the main sponsors.

“Intelligent transport systems are an extremely import ant research and development area for the Volvo Group. It is vital that we take part in this congress and present ourselves and our know-how. It gives us an opportunity to create new ties and strengthen our international partnerships. In the long term, we are also hoping to be able to increase the sale of soft products,” explains Mats Rosenquist at Volvo Technology, who coordinated the Group’s participation in the congress.

“The congress is also good for us internally. It features the very latest developments within R&D. It stimulates us and gives us important new knowledge and information,” he adds.
The ITS World Congress is aimed at decision makers, politicians, large customers and other stakeholders in the
transport industry.

On its stand, the Volvo Group presented a number of illustrations on the theme of safer, more efficient transport. They included active safety systems of different kinds for drivers and goods and new, safe solutions for goods transport. The theatre performance organized by some of the researchers was a somewhat different way of demonstrating the technology involved in transporting dangerous goods from terminals to ports.

Outside the congress halls, visitors were also able to test-drive Volvo and Renault trucks equipped with every conceivable kind of technology for improving the driver’s working area and promoting safer driving.
