Det amerikanska flygbolaget Southwest Airlines har placerat en order på upptill 290 plan av typ Boeing 737 med motorn CFM-56. Ordern, som värderas till 4,5 miljarder dollar, är den största hittills för denna flygplanstyp.

AB Volvo och Renault har nu, i enlighet med den avsiktsförklaring som offentliggjordes i april i år, undertecknat det slutliga avtalet om att Volvo bildar ett nytt globalt lastbilsföretag tillsammans med Renault VI/Mack.

Volvo has acquired approx. 43.3 million own shares through the repurchase offer that ended June 30, 2000. In total, 11.6 billion SEK is transferred to Volvo's shareholders. After the repurchase, AB Volvo is now in possession of a total of 43,285,237 own shares, of which 13,628,789 are series A shares and 29,656,448 series B shares.

Volvo Penta is one of the leading European suppliers of engines for electrical power generation. Its range is now extended with four new units in the 5 and 7-litre range. The new engines are all modern, direct injection diesels with low emissions and noise levels which are economical in operation. Furthermore, they are delivered complete, ready to connect to an electrical generator.

Volvo Bussar AB och den kinesiska fordonstillverkaren Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) tecknade idag avtal gällande etablering i Shanghai av ett joint-venture-företag för tillverkning och försäljning av stads- och förortsbussar. SAICs nuvarande produktion av cirka 2.500 bussar om året utgör en grund för det nya företagets verksamhet.

Den 29 juni invigdes Volvo Construction Equipment Components nya komponentmåleri i Eskilstuna av Tony Helsham, nytillträdd VD för Volvo Construction Equipment Group. Måleriet, som representerar en investering på totalt ca 80 miljoner kronor, är en offensiv satsning för att minska bolagets miljöpåverkan som ligger helt i linje med den miljöcertifiering enligt ISO 14 001 som bolaget erhöll i februari. Anläggningen innebär också en avsevärd kvalitetsförbättring av målningsprocessen.
