Carla Janell Saunders

What is your internship assignment?
I started in the Volvo Group in the summer of 2011 as a Marketing Intern for Volvo IT, and currently serve as an Executive Marketing Assistant for Prevost-Volvo Bus Corporation.  I have always had a passion for working with people and getting the job done. My favorite thing about working in the Volvo Group is the people – and the experiences we share together every day.

What does a day at work look like?
In my current role, I work with the Marketing Team on CRM (Customer Relations Management) with training, event planning, internal and external communications for Prevost, and sales support for the Regional Sales Manager and the VP’s of New Coach and Conversion Sales.

Where and in what part of the organization are you doing your internship?
Greensboro, NC USA

Why did you choose to do your internship with the Volvo Group?
Volvo is a great global company for anyone to work, even if you just look at the compensation and benefits. But what truly sealed the deal for me was the people. My entire experience with the Volvo Group – from being recruited at my university’s career fair to my interview – was exciting and informational. Everyone was genuine, helpful and had a positive energy about them, which gave me a sense of trust: They had not only their own best interest at heart, but mine as well. During my interview, I could sense a positive energy in the room that was sincere and honest.

If you were to recommend Volvo Group as an employer, what would you put forward?
After working for the Volvo Group, I have come to realize that there is a good balance between work, family, having fun, and getting a job done. I strongly believe it is great to have a challenging job with the opportunity to advance, but the opportunity to wake up every day and work with people you can trust and enjoy is not something you can get just anywhere. It has taken time to establish a culture and people who are different, but that work and think with like minds, and who ultimately are here for one common goal.

Could you please describe your best experience from being an intern with the Volvo Group?
While working as an intern with Volvo IT,  Ihave  assisted in writing a success story about the Volvo IT mobility team. The story was created to highlight the development of a mobile application developed for Volvo Buses that allowed Sales Managers to access marketing material from their iPhones and iPads. Not only did this experience afford me the opportunity to be involved with innovative developments, it also allowed me to work with many individuals throughout the Volvo Group which eventually lead to the position I work in today, for Prevost.
