There are about 1.8 million children in China under the age of 14 who are partially or totally deaf. Every year up to 30,000 more are born or become hard of hearing due to genetic problems, accidents or infections. Like many children with other disabilities in China, deaf children often face discrimination, social isolation and poverty. Many grow up unable to communicate with their friends and family and face challenges in finding a meaningful role in society.
As part of the Volvo Group’s Blue Care Project in China, 65 hearing aids supplied by Siemens will be donated to 33 children in Qinghai province in central China through Qinghai Charity Foundation. The donation, worth a total of about €10,000, is being made in collaboration with Siemens, Save the Children, Star of Hope, and China Charity foundation.
