Solnyshko children's home

A ray of sunshine

The Solnyshko orphanage (in Russian 'solnyshko' means 'little sun' or 'sunshine'), located in the Russian city of Kaluga, is home to 47 children. The children are either orphans or their parents are in jail or are otherwise unable to look after them.

Volvo Trucks in Russia has decided to support the children’s home, which is celebrating its 12th anniversary. Volvo Trucks employees have been involved in raising money to buy toys, furniture and other items for the home.
The company has also financed a separate sports arena where the children can play football, volleyball and basketball.

Helping the home is just one part of the company’s society contribution programme in Russia.

In January this year the Volvo Group opened a new assembly plant in Kaluga, which is located about 200 km southwest of Moscow. The factory will employ about 1,000 people and produce up to 15,000 heavy-duty Volvo and Renault trucks per year for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market.
