Passionately Pink for the Cure: fundraising for breast cancer research

Volvo Group employees think pink

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. A woman dies of breast cancer every 68 seconds.

The Passionately Pink for the Cure campaign raises money for research into the disease, and three Volvo Group employees – Jenna Graves, Dawn Hugins and Pia Jarkvist – are actively involved in the campaign.

At Volvo Trucks in the US, the Professional Women’s Network (PWN) devoted an entire month to supporting the Susan G Komen Foundation, the largest organisation against breast cancer in the country. PWN organised lectures for colleagues and their families with the aim of increasing awareness of the disease. They sold pink T-shirts and encouraged co-workers to dress in pink every Friday and to donate five US dollars or more to the foundation. At the end of the month they had raised nearly €3,000.
At Volvo Buses in Sweden, Pia Jarkvist was one of five organisers of fundraising activities including a breast cancer gala with famous entertainers, a fashion show and a web auction. This campaign raised about €20,000 to support women suffering from breast cancer.
