The Volvo Group Belgium wins award for CO2 reduction

by Volvo Group Representation EU

The Volvo Group Belgium received a “CO2 reduction award” at the gala dinner organised on 26 September by NOBELUX, a Swedish Chamber of Commerce for Belgium and Luxembourg.

Members of the jury congratulated the exemplarity of Swedish companies in their commitment to environment sometimes before any legislative constraint. The Volvo Group Belgium was awarded for its major efforts to improve the environment with its CO2 neutral plant in Ghent.

Companies received their awards from Anders Flanking, State Secretary to Minister for the environment, Lena Ek.  According to Flanking, these awards show that it is possible to do business while embracing a responsible behavior towards the society. “Tonight, some companies won’t only receive a prize, but they become ambassadors to inspire others” the State Secretary added.  Anders Flanking also stressed one important link between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Innovation: “Best practices awarded today show how Corporate Social Responsibility and the use of environmentally friendly solutions can sometimes require companies to use a certain type of innovation.”

The Nobelux gala dinner was an opportunity for Gunnar Bengtson, Director Environmental Affairs – Volvo Group, to give an update on the Volvo Group’s partnership with WWF's Climate Savers program. Kris Van Damme, Manager Quality & Infrastructure – Volvo Group Belgium, also made a presentation on the CO2 neutral plant in Ghent.

Other award winners were SKF Logistics, Camfil Farr, Port of Gothenburg and Stena for other categories, namely, Energy Management, Waste reduction, and also general sustainability awards.

The Volvo Group Belgium's application was encouraged by the Volvo Group Representation EU office, which is member of the NOBELUX Chamber of Commerce. NOBELUX acts as a bilateral Chamber of Commerce between the Nordic Countries (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland), Belgium and Luxembourg.  NOBELUX Chamber of Commerce was founded in Stockholm in 1997 in order to create a high level networking platform for its members and to assist companies to find new business contacts and to develop their businesses in these countries.
