Volvo city buses to Perth, Australia

Peth, Australia
Volvo Buses in Australia is going to deliver as many as 650 city buses to the city of Perth. Perth is the fourth largest city in Australia, it is located in Western Australia and has approximately two million inhabitants.

The customers is the PTA, Perth Transport Authority, which runs public transport in Western Australia. Volvo
Buses is supplying the chassis and the bodies will be built by Volgren Australia at its plant in Perth.

The total value of the deal is around SEK 2.6 billion. It has a term of five years, with an option for a further five. The PTA’s objective is to modernise the bus fleet in Perth.

The PTA previously had an agreement with Mercedes-Benz relating to the delivery of city buses. According to Simon O’Brien, Australian Minister of Transport, this new deal with Volvo Buses will ensure that the bus fleet continues to be one of the best in the bus sector.
The fuel efficiency and low lifecycle cost of these buses played a major role in the PTA’s choice.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Volvo Buses to develop a long-term partnership in Perth,” says David Mead, head of Volvo Buses in Australia.
