Volvo's work in India received recognition in January 2007 when the Volvo B7RLE city bus received the Commercial Vehicle Technology award of the year with the motivation that Volvo had changed the overall outlook of the commuters towards city bus travel and paved the way for modern bus systems in Indian cities.
Volvo Buses is the market leader in India for luxury, air-conditioned long-distance coaches and has advanced its position in city buses.
City buses from Volvo have been in operation in India since January 2006, where they were first used in Bangalore, a city of six million inhabitants that is often called India's Silicon Valley. Today, there are also city buses from Volvo operating in Pune. Initially, 25 Volvo buses were used in traffic on five different bus lines in Bangalore. Comfort, with low entry and air conditioning, is something out of the ordinary for buses in India. Greater comfort is one of our contributions to travellers in India and the rest of the world.
However, our buses also contribute to reducing congestion and the environmental problems associated with traffic in an increasing number of cities.
