1. How did you come to join the Volvo Group?
I've been in the boating industry for over 20 years and my last job was working as Senior Vice President for Operations for one of Volvo Penta's biggest customers. I was responsible for purchasing engines, and I forged a good working relationship with our Volvo Penta CEO. I jumped at the opportunity to join the Volvo Penta team.
2. Tell us about you current role and its main responsibilities.
At Volvo Penta of the Americas, I've been able to work in dual roles, as a business person and as a lawyer. As General Counsel, I'm responsible for all legal affairs of the corporation; as Special Assistant to the CEO, I evaluate business opportunities, fix issues, investigate synergies with other entities and go strategically where needed. I think my business responsibilities help make me a better lawyer. It's the perfect job.
3. Have you had other roles and assignments in the Group? What would you like to do in the future in the Group?
Product safety and working with our engineers on safe design is my passion and one of the Volvo Group's core values. I was asked to help write Volvo Penta's Safety Committee charter and strategy. I'm a member of this important committee headquartered in Gothenberg. I work with a diverse group of North American colleagues representing all BA/BUs on the Public Policy Committee administered out of Volvo's Washington DC office. This committee helps determine and develop detailed government relations policy positions in concert with AB Volvo Public Affairs. I also serve as a mentor to the Professional Women's Network here in North America. Lawyers within the Volvo Group meet regionally at least once a year, and internationally every two years. These meetings provide valuable (and fun!) opportunities to share experiences and best practices.
One of my favorite parts of my Volvo experience is working with my colleagues across country borders and business units. The depth of talent and commitment that I found far exceeds my experience working for and with other major manufacturers. Volvo's ability to attract and its commitment to retain talent from around the world is its key to success, and I look forward to more international opportunities.
4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group? ( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
The culture of the Volvo Group is welcoming and innovative. I am encouraged to speak up, to share ideas, to innovate and to lead, both within my business unit and throughout the Group as a whole. I think my opportunities are only limited by my imagination.
5. Why do you think someone should consider working for a Volvo Group company?
Because the professional possibilities are endless. The size and dynamics of the Volvo Group allows motivated, talented employees to move up within a BU/BA, between BU/BAs, and even between countries. Professional growth is encouraged and nurtured.
