Mandy in China

1. How did you come to join the Volvo Group?
My first contact with the Volvo Group was at "Sweden Day", a Swedish culture and enterprise introduction seminar. I was a student in Tsinghua University at that time and was very attracted by mysterious Swedish culture atmosphere. Volvo´s brilliant presentation and the Volvo employees' professional style impressed me as well. I volunteered to be an intern at Volvo. After 6 month work, I decided to put my career in this truly multi-culture company, throw myself into a passionate, professional, mutual-respect global team.   

2. Tell us about you current role and its main responsibilities
I am a global buyer in China now. In my daily work, I work closely with my counterpart worldwide, representing China, contributing to heavy-duty engine or transmission components sourcing strategy development, manage exporting business in accordance with the defined strategies by optimizing total cost and ensuring on-time APQP/PPAP on-time execution. Also, develop relationship with related Chinese suppliers, perform supplier evaluation, capacity audit, supply chain optimization, etc.

3. Have you had other roles and assignments in the Group? What would you like to do in the future in the Group?
Besides my buyer role, I am also a mentor for a new team member in our team. I help him to be integrated into the team, accompany him in his orientation stage, introduce Volvo tools into his toolbox. In the future, I would like to be the global purchasing leader for one engine segment, who is responsible for Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature of all components in one segment and buyer, engineer, quality resource coordination in one business package. I have been selected to participate in "Wings to Lead" training program performed by the European Institute of Purchasing and Management. Also a 3 month job rotation in France is planned. In order to reach my next goal, I grasp any opportunity to learn and grow in my daily work, trying to get well-prepared for this more challenging role with higher competence requirement.

4. How would you describe the culture of Volvo Group? ( i.e. what do you think is distinctive about how we do things in Volvo Group ?)
I choose "Trust, Equality, Teamwork and Responsibility" to describe the culture of Volvo Group. The Volvo Way describes to all Volvo employees what the Volvo Group stand for and what we shall achieve together. It encourage us to work with energy, passion and respect for the individual. Working in Volvo Group brings me a special and significant experience to my professional career, and also to my life.
