Yesterday, Volvo confirmed the name of their new European Tour event as the Volvo Golf Champions. It will take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain in January, 2011.

The Volvo Group takes a positive view of the European Commission’s ambition to present a proposal for European carbon-dioxide legislation that will regulate emissions from trucks. However, one requirement is that emissions are measured based on the transport work conducted by the vehicles and not exclusively on the basis of the individual vehicle’s emissions.

In only 10 weeks, employees of the City of Gothenburg have succeeded in reducing their carbon emissions through changes in their commuting habits using Commute Greener, a new mobile phone and web application from Volvo IT. One of the groups actually succeeded in reducing its carbon emissions by as much as two thirds. To date, 9,900 zero-emission kilometers have been registered – a distance corresponding to 235 marathons.

A truck rig can cut its fuel costs by EUR 8,000 annually if it is run with optimised wheel alignment and the correct tyres and correct tyre pressures. This was shown in a test that tyre manufacturer Michelin carried out together with Volvo Trucks.

A new, more flexible and user-friendly version of Volvo Trucks’ web-based system for transport information, Dynafleet, is being launched today. “Now all our customers can tailor their own subscriptions to meet their needs by including different services,” says Per-Anders Grösfjeld, marketing manager for transport information systems at Volvo Trucks.
