Volvo Trucks is investing almost SEK 1.1 billion in its cab factory in Umeå. The investment covers new production equipment as well as measures designed to increase capacity and flexibility in the production plant.

Volvo Penta in Turkey has received an order for 20 marine gensets with 16-liter engines and five emergency power units with 7-liter engines. The engines will be installed in new, more environmentally friendly ferry boats that will be placed in service in the Bosporus and the Sea of Marmara.

Volvo Trucks is broadening its alcolock offer for heavy trucks. The third generation of alcolocks now being presented is the only system in the world that is type-approved for transportation of dangerous goods.

In accordance with the Swedish Securities Exchange and Clearing Operations Act, Volvo Treasury AB now publishes its half year report.

Peter Karlsten, head of Volvo Trucks North America, has been appointed President of Volvo Powertrain. He will assume his new position on December 1, when his predecessor, Lars-Göran Moberg, retires. Karlsten will also assume the role as Senior Vice President Technology for the Volvo Group and become a new member of the Group Executive Committee.

Total deliveries of trucks from the Volvo Group’s four truck companies through July this year amounted to 124,370, which is a decrease of 4%, compared with the year-earlier period. Deliveries from Nissan Diesel only include the period April to July 2007. Excluding Nissan Diesel, deliveries amounted to 108,559, a decrease by 16%, compared with the year-earlier period.

Christian Johansson, currently head of Business Office and CFO at Volvo 3P, has been appointed Senior Vice President and CFO at Volvo Trucks. He is succeeding Björn Ingemanson who earlier this summer was appointed new head of Volvo Trucks’ International Division.

The Volvo Group is the first vehicle manufacturer to produce seven demonstration trucks that can all be driven without emitting any environmentally harmful carbon dioxide. These trucks were exhibited for the first time today in Stockholm and are equipped with diesel engines that have been modified to operate on seven different types of renewable liquid and gaseous fuels. “Volvo is part of the climate problem, but today we have shown that carbon-dioxide free transports are a possibility and that we as a vehicle manufacturer both can and will be part for the solution to the climate issue,” says Leif Johansson, CEO of the Volvo Group.

The Volvo Group and Vattenfall have concluded a cooperation agreement concerning sustainable energy deliveries. The agreement includes the delivery of Vattenel, a product covered by an Environmental Product Declaration, and trading in emission rights.

Volvo Aero is the first company in the world to receive the “Supplier Gold” award from United Technologies (UTC), one of the US’ 20 largest manufacturing companies. The distinction represents an important confirmation that Volvo Aero meets UTC’s demanding requirements with regard to quality, ability to deliver and long-term customer service.
