The Volvo Group will be participating as a cooperation partner in a joint environmental program between the US and Swedish Governments. The program is aimed at reducing consumption of fossil fuel by focusing on projects within the areas of energy and vehicle development. For Volvo, it would involve producing powertrains based on alternative fuels suitable for heavy vehicles.

Total deliveries of trucks from the Volvo Group’s four truck companies, including Nissan Diesel, through May this year amounted to 82,865, which is a decrease of 10%, compared with the year-earlier period. Deliveries from Nissan Diesel only include the period April to May 2007, since the company was consolidated as of April 1, 2007. Excluding Nissan Diesel, deliveries amounted to 76,635, a decrease by 17%, compared with the year-earlier period.

Volvo Buses in Norway has secured its largest individual order to date. The bus operator Veolia Transport has ordered 173 Volvo buses that will be deployed in traffic operations in the Stavanger area.

AB Volvo’s Board of Directors has decided to invest slightly more than 1.7 billion in Volvo Powertrain. The investment will result in manufacturing capacity for heavy diesel engines increasing by 20 percent and capacity for heavy gearboxes increasing by 50 percent.

The Board of Directors of AB Volvo has decided to apply for delisting of the Volvo share from the NASDAQ stock exchange in the United States and for deregistration of the Class B share from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC.

Last Saturday, China’s President Hu Jintao came to Volvo in Göteborg. The stopover at the Swedish vehicle manufacturer was part of an official state visit.

A Volvo bus contract in Santiago, Chile, with a new bus operator, has been cancelled. Volvo Buses, though, continues to deliver new buses to the three other operators in Santiago.

For administrative reasons, Volvo will not be able to request redemption of the remaining shares outstanding in Nissan Diesel at the company’s Annual General Meeting in June. Instead, this will be done at an Extraordinary General Meeting in Nissan Diesel that will be held at the end of August, at the earliest.
