Volvo Trucks is now taking the next concrete step towards carbon dioxide-neutral road transport. Within the framework of a broad-based joint project, field tests are being conducted with 14 trucks running on Bio-DME – a fuel that combines a low environmental imprint with high energy efficiency.

Total deliveries from the Volvo Group’s truck operations in August amounted to 7,109 vehicles. This was a decrease of 52% compared with the year-earlier period. In addition to continued low demand, deliveries for August were also affected by a prolonged vacation period.

The Volvo Group has developed a computer game to teach the principles of lean production, a concept designed to increase the efficiency of working processes. In this game, the players can see how different changes impact efficiency and profitability. The results indicate that what is known as serious gaming is an excellent complement to training at work.

Volvo Treasury AB (publ) has today published its semi-annual report for 2009.

The total deliveries from the Volvo Group’s truck operations in July amounted to 8,899 vehicles. This was a decrease of 54%, compared with the year-earlier period.

Environmentally adapted fuel is one step on the road to reducing carbon emissions at Volvo Logistics. The first petrol station in western Sweden selling ACP Diesel Bio30 is now opening at the Skandiahamnen port in Göteborg, close to Volvo’s plants and the trans-shipment terminal in Arendal. This is the result of a cooperation between IKEA, H&M, DHL, Preem and Volvo Logistics.

For the Volvo Group, the second quarter of 2009 remained difficult in terms of earnings in the wake of the exceptionally rapid decline in demand that followed the crisis in the financial system. The Group was, however, successful in reducing inventories, which contributed to a positive development in working capital.

Volvo Powertrain has signed an agreement with the white collar unions in Göteborg and Malmö regarding work time and income reduction.

Volvo Trucks in India has secured an order for 125 trucks. It is the company’s largest order since being established in the country.
