Total deliveries from the Volvo Group’s truck operations in April amounted to 13,030 vehicles. This was an increase of 42% compared with the year-earlier period.

Today, May 11, Medical Doctor Fredrik Persson received the Assar Gabrielsson award for his dissertation at the University of Gothenburg on the treatment of genomic imbalances in tumors. The award included a prize of SEK 50,000 with the potential to receive a research grant of SEK 100,000 in autumn 2010.

Martin Weissburg, 48, has been appointed as new President of the Volvo Group’s customer finance company, Volvo Financial Services (VFS). Weissburg, who is currently head of VFS’ Region the Americas operations, will assume his new position on May 15, 2010 and replaces Salvatore L Mauro, who has been appointed new head of the Volvo Group’s representation office in New York.

Volvo Treasury AB (publ) has today published its annual report for 2009.

During the first quarter of 2010, the Volvo Group’s sales amounted to SEK 58.6 billion, which adjusted for currency was a 12% increase compared with the year-earlier period. Operating income improved considerably to SEK 2.8 billion, compared with a loss of SEK 4.5 billion in the same quarter in the preceding year. All of the Group’s business segments were profitable. The operating margin rose to 4.8% as a consequence of the actions taken to reduce the Group’s costs and as an effect of improved capacity utilization and productivity in the industrial system.

The Volvo Group’s Japanese subsidiary UD Trucks is launching a new version of the Quon heavy truck, and a new medium-duty truck in the eight-ton weight-class under the Condor series. The new and updated version of Quon will be equipped with an 11-liter engine based on the Volvo Group’s platform, while the new Condor truck will be equipped with a newly developed GH7 medium-duty engine. The new engines combine low consumption with low emissions and satisfy the latest emissions standards in Japan and North America.
