Greenhouse effect

A natural process in which the atmosphere traps sunlight in order to heat the surface of the earth. This is made possible due to the existence of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The combustion of fuel produces carbon dioxide and if this fuel is fossil-based, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere can exceed that which is then naturally absorbed by plants. This enhances the greenhouse effect, which can lead to serious changes in the earth's climate.
