Towards sustainable mobility

Efficient transport plays a crucial role in the development of society and its economy. In many respects, commercial transport solutions are the life blood of the economy.

At the same time, transportation has negative impact on society, not least in the form of emissions.

Innovations lead the way
Volvo Group works consistently to reduce the negative environmental impact of our products. This naturally involves increasing fuel efficiency and alternative fuels. But we also invest substantial resources in developing alternative drivelines, such as hybrid solutions and engines optimised for renewable fuels.

Considering the full lifecycle
Yet we take an even broader approach. We take environmental impact into account at all stages of the product lifecycle - from the first sketches on the drawing board, throughout its service life until the product has fulfilled its purpose and is recycled.

Meeting ever-stricter demands
To meet legal requirements aimed at improving air quality, the Volvo Group is continually evolving new engine technology which reduces emissions, especially those of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter.  Each new product developed should have less environmental impact than the one it replaces.

CO2-neutral production
We are also focusing on reducing the impact of our production operations by, for example, reducing energy consumption. In 2007, Volvo presented the world's first carbon dioxide neutral automotive plant in Ghent, Belgium. The long-term ambition is to make all plants CO2 neutral.

Responsible supply chain management
We consider the whole chain, therefore we impose environmental requirements on all our suppliers.

Delivers value
By focusing on environmental issues, we are convinced that we can create value for our customers while at the same time contributing to sustainable development.
