Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2011 opens today (April 15th) at Boao, Hainan Province, China. In attendance were numerous heads of state and senior officials, who all spoke at the conference. The attendees included, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and South African President Jacob Zuma. Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered the keynote address at the opening plenary. Mr. Leif Johansson, CEO of Volvo Group then delivered a speech, on behalf of all enterprise parties. While echoing the theme of this year’s Forum, “Inclusive Development”, Mr. Johansson shared his insights on economic recovery and sustainable development.
Although the world has gone through the most challenging period of an economic crisis, Mr. Leif Johansson believes there are further challenges in the path ahead. We are still faced with issues of a ballooning population of 8 billion, climate change and paralyzed traffic. The Volvo Group, as a global leading provider of commercial transportation solutions, hopes to be part of the solution and is the first vehicle manufacturer to join the Climate Saver Programme organized by WWF.
“I think we all agree on the importance of working closely together, without boundaries, as we strive towards a better future,” says Mr. Johansson about this year’s “Inclusive Development” theme.
Mr. Johansson pays close attention to sustainable development and asks all to collaborate in creating a global business climate focused on sustainable growth. He hopes the Boao Forum can call on the elite around the world to gather and brainstorm solutions to social issues from the perspectives of government, commerce and industry.
The Volvo Group has been a diamond sponsor of the Boao Forum for four consecutive years. This year over 2,000 participants from home and abroad are gathering at Boao to create a development concept for Asia. Volvo Group is dedicated to translating the shared knowledge resulting from this gathering into policy and action in the Asian region.
