Giving poor schoolchildren new hope

The Volvo Group has a commitment to play an active role in the communities in which it operates. In China this social responsibility takes the form of supporting the training of teachers at schools in disadvantaged areas.

The schools are part of the Hope Project which for 20 years has been helping children in poverty-stricken areas. To date more than 15,000 schools have been built within the Hope Project – two of them with financial support from the Volvo Group. But while the infrastructure for teaching has been established, a shortage of qualified teachers has continues to be a challenge.

For this reason the Volvo Blue Care Program, in collaboration with the China Youth Development Foundation, is offering three-day training courses to some 200 teachers working at Hope Schools in Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces.

The Volvo Blue Care Program has been active in other projects in China, including a hearing aid donation project for deaf children and the donation of money and Volvo excavators in the wake of the 2008 earthquake which claimed thousands of lives.
