Global functions – one goal
The Volvo 3P organization is cross-functional. We work in a global environment where sharing knowledge among our various offices and working closely with our partners within the Group, such as the truck brands, Powertrain and aftermarket, are key elements.
There is a common challenge in virtually everything we do: to balance the Volvo Group’s need for synergies with the respective truck brand’s need for uniqueness.
A project-driven organization
Much of our work is done in projects. And it is fair to say that it is our projects and processes, rather than our organizational structure that shape our way of working.
One consequence of this is that teamwork has become a prominent Volvo 3P feature.
The Volvo 3P main functions include:
Product Planning: The right offer at the right time
The role of this function is to establish a global product strategy and product plan that defines all future products and product-related services for each of the truck companies in the Volvo Group.
Global Engineering and Global Vehicle Development: Shaping the future - today
Product development is the main role of these functions, that do everything - from defining measurable customer requirements and creating synergies through common platform architectures, to the verification of features and qualities using calculations, rigs, proving grounds and field tests before products are launched. This is also where we develop innovative product design that strengthens the profiles of the respective truck brands. Cab and Chassis engineering, as well as Vehicle Dynamics and Electrical&Electronics engineering are part of Global Engineering function.
Purchasing: Best value for money
Volvo 3P’s purchasing organization, which is customer-oriented and supplier integrated, offers significant size and negotiating strength. Its role is to provide a competitive advantage to the truck brands by carefully selecting, developing and managing premium suppliers.
Best value for money is achieved through ensuring product quality and efficient worldwide parts supply while simplifying service procedures.
Product Range Management: Complete product delivery
The product range management function has the operational responsibility of ensuring complete product delivery through excellent project management. This means ensuring that projects and product maintenance processes are run in accordance with decisions taken by the Steering Committee and decision-making bodies.
The Business Office, including Finance and Strategic Planning, HR & Communications, CIO and Quality functions, support and drive the Volvo 3P agenda towards its objectives.
