Six Renault Kerax trucks and six Renault Sherpa trucks are currently nearing the end of the 30,000-kilometre journey between the North Cape and South Africa.
Two of the people who took part in the first leg are Olga Kuznetsova from Russia and Leon Nel from South Africa. Olga Kuznetsova from Moscow obtained a truck driving licence and realised her dream when she became one of the drivers on the first leg of the Cape to Cape expedition. Leon Nel from South Africa loves trucks. He will never forget the camaraderie that was created between the participants in the Renault Trucks team.
The Renault expedition was designed to demonstrate the company’s technical skills and know-how, as well as the quality of its products. It also aims to verify the success of
SCR Euro 4 technology and to reinforce the image of the brand on markets that are currently expanding.
Some 50 of the Volvo Group’s employees are helping to drive the vehicles. Leon Nel from South Africa was one of the people who covered the first leg between the North Cape and Kiev in March. He is normally responsible for one of the Group’s truck workshops in Cape Town. He had never previously been outside South Africa when his manager encouraged him to apply to take part in the expedition.
“Perhaps the reason was that I love trucks,” he says and explains that he also likes driving around South Africa in his four-wheel-drive Land Rover Club. Leon Nel was accepted and he left the summer in South Africa to be involved at the very start.
“This was the experience of a lifetime,” he says. He was particularly surprised by the beauty of the landscape at the North Cape, which he thinks is far too beautiful to be described in words.
“What’s more, I shall always remember the feeling of comradeship that was created between the members of the team with affection,” he adds
