Issue description
The climate change is one of the most important global environmental issues of our time.
Climate change affects all sectors of society, can have major and adverse effects on agricultural and urban development, the economy and ecosystems. Society has decided to apply the principle of caution. The way the climate issue is handled will be of great consequence for the global development.
The increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are primarily due to the combustion of oil, coal and natural gas. Given the dominance of fossil fuels, approximately 90% of the world's commercial energy consumption, there is no simple solution to this situation. The transport sector ccounts for about 25% of this consumption and of an equal amount of the carbon dioxide emissions. Road traffic account for about 15%. The issue of climate change is treated with the utmost gravity by the transport equipment industry, which commits over USD 40 billion annually to measures aimed at cutting emissions. Vehicles and engines are becoming more fuel efficient.
