Supplier Development Engineer

Job Summary:
Supplier evaluation, continuous improvement, and parts development at suppliers.
Supplier management for QDC performance.

Key/Primary Responsibilities:
  • Secure high-level suppliers and support supplier selection through SEM (Supplier Evaluation Model).
  • Help launch stable, new models through APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
  • Manage corrective and preventative actions at supplier regarding quality & delivery issues.
  • Improve supplier quality & delivery performance through SDP (Supplier Development Process), process audit, capacity audit, Six Sigma, QI project, Index audits, etc.
  • Reduce the part cost through Value Analysis/Value Engineering activities
  • Perform Lean workshops at suppliers
  • Lead sourcing projects through VSP (Volvo Sourcing Process).
  • Lead quality management system improvement projects at supplier.
  • Manage supplier relationship
  • Perform other Supplier Development Business Plan actions.
  • Handle other work assigned by SD Head

Candidate Profile

Professional Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Purchasing or Quality or R&D or Manufacturing engineering dept. for weldments.
  • Have work experience in Construction Equipment or heavy industry.
  • Familiar with welding process/procedure/standards (GB, AWS or ISO)

Personal Qualifications
  • Knowledge
  1. Technic: Proved knowledge of welding and structure parts manufacturing
  2. Quality: APQP & PPAP knowledge
  3. Quality: Deeply understand about the theory & related standard of quality management
  4. Lean: Understand the related philosophy and tools.
  • Skills
  1. Necessary computer skills (MS WD/EXCEL/POWERPOINT)
  2. Good communication Skills
  3. Initiative, Drive for Results, Sense of Urgency, Flexibility, Innovation and Creativity
  4. Problem analysis, decision making & execution
  5. Project management skill is preferred
  6. QMS audit skills, ISO audit or process audit experience are preferred
  7. Good problem-solving ability
  8. Supply chain management
  9. Good collaboration
  10. Supplier relationship management
  11. Negotiations & contracting
  • Possess core competencies of Volvo
  1. Education:4-year university degree in Engineering areas is minimum.
  2. Languages: Fluent English and Chinese.
