Who We Are

Built by people. We are Australia’s largest heavy vehicle manufacturing powerhouse.

Our team comprises over 700 colleagues, representing over 40 different nationalities.

We build trucks for the Australian market, and also for New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. 

We leverage global common architecture and shared technology to design trucks that boast the latest innovations, whilst being built to withstand the unique Australian climate and operating conditions.

The sole truck manufacturer to have been awarded the prestigious Australian Made certification; we support local suppliers and enable our customers to be leaders in their field.  

Our plant meets ISO 9001/14001 standards with well-established Quality and Environmental Management Systems in place.

Our Milestones

1972 Volvo Trucks first establishes a production facility, building heavy duty trucks in Wacol, Brisbane, Queensland

1994 Volvo Truck production reaches over 1,000 trucks during the year

2002 Mack Trucks assembly is integrated into the Wacol factory, becoming the only plant to build both Mack and Volvo under the same roof

2006 Australia launches the Volvo Globetrotter XXL cab; designed and engineered in Australia for local conditions.  The official opening of a Training Centre at Wacol Plant

2010 Inauguration of the Offline Process Building, complete with rolling road test cell from Sweden

2013 Wacol Plant introduces its first and only robot, used to apply the glue to the Volvo windscreens.  Mack celebrates 50 years of local operation and assembly

2014 Introduction of new lean axle assembly line

2015 The most expensive Mack Truck in the world is produced at Wacol Plant, a highly customized truck released to the Sultan of Johor

2017 The factory receives Australian Made certification due to the high level of local suppliers and components.  The 60,000th Australian built truck is celebrated

2019 Mack celebrates 100 years in Australia with limited edition 100 years trucks released

2020 Volvo launches complete new product range, the biggest launch in Volvo history and production of the all-new range begins at Wacol Plant
