Prototype Workshop Supervisor

Prototype Workshop and Test Labs are responsible for the retrofit and testing support for Volvo and Mack trucks in the North American market. We work with leading edge technologies connected to diesel vehicles, electromobility products, automation and connectivity.


What You Will be Doing
As the Prototype Workshop Supervisor, you will be a hands-on leader managing the preparation, development, instrumentation and performance of a wide variety of complete vehicle tests. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the technicians and design engineers in testing future technologies for our trucks!


You will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing the technician’s daily activities, ensuring project times are being met and providing clear feedback on project deliverables.
  • Leading daily team status meetings and collaborating to troubleshoot solutions, as they arise.
  • Applying organized, systematic, and detailed mechanical methods to complete tasks related to vehicle components and systems.
  • Supporting engineers and technicians with vehicle retrofits, prototype development, instrumentation/sensor installation and troubleshooting.
  • Overseeing and assisting in the set up and maintenance of test rigs, as needed.
  • Participating in departmental resource planning activities.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with engineering staff teams to ensure constant, clear communication on project needed and shop capabilities / timelines.
  • Acting as the responsible supervisor for 10+ direct employees.

Who You Are
You are an experienced, highly skilled technical supervisor with a passion for troubleshooting and a strong understanding mechanical and electrical systems / components. You lead your employees with a positive attitude and thrive on developing a team of employees at various skill levels.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent 8-10 years’ experience.
  • 8+ years of related experience; 5+ years Heavy truck diagnostic and troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Proven experience as a supervisor with direct reports.
  • Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills.
  • Complete understanding of heavy duty truck and trailer systems and functions.
  • Complete understanding of A/C Systems; complete understanding of AC/DC Electrical Systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to think outside of the box.
