IFP School BAC+5 Apprenticeship (H/F) - Combustion calibration
As a member of the team in charge of engine calibration development for the light and medium duty applications (5 liters and 8 liters engines) you will be involved in Software/dataset Verification & Validation plan execution as well as calibration development necessary following some hardware or software/calibration changes .
The changes will be driven either by quality issue in the field to be solved or by some cost reduction project on the current engines or to prepare EuroVID legislation evolution (step D modifying cycle validity criteria and step E introducing cold phase in the ISC procedure).
Some key parts for performance and emissions level could be changed and different strategies of the Engine Management Software (EMS) will have to be adapted (injection parameters and air loop control for normal and SCR/DPF heating combustion modes, Exhaust After Treatment System models and management strategies).
Daily activity will be split between simulation run on the Virtual Test Rig (VTR), data processing and modeling for optimized dataset building and engine bench or vehicle tests follow-up for calibration validation.
The target of the apprenticeship will be :
· During the first period, to work together with a calibration engineer to understand what are his role and responsibilities in VOLVO Powertrain organization and to learn the tools to be used and the processes to be applied to perform engine tests, to build datasets and to validate a calibration.
· During the second period, as an autonomous member of the team working under the lead of a Performance Leader, to take the responsibility of developing and validating the calibration for some of the ECU strategies through simulation on a virtual test rig.
As part of continuous improvement of combustion section, the apprentice will contribute to investigate development test plan optimization with the help of available simulation tools, propose simulation improvement development area. He will take the responsibility of carrying out associated tests and knowledge management activities (test plan, guidelines ..).
