Senior Buyer for Automation focusing on Software

It’s also a great opportunity since you, together with the Vehicle Automation Purchasing Team, will be located in our newly built CampX in Gothenburg, our ecosystem for the development of connectivity, electromobility and vehicle automation solutions within the whole Volvo Group. Working at CampX will mean close cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders, from engineering to suppliers/partners – which definitely means cross-functional learning and a truly opportunity to think outside of the box and be innovative.

You will belong to the Vehicle Electrical & Electronics Europe department, and our new team Vehicle Automation Purchasing. In our fast changing world, where the transport solutions industry is disrupted by some key society and technology trends – we believe this team is very important.
The Vehicle Automation arena is an extremely dynamic one with new players arising every day, from the traditional automotive ones to the software-based start-ups. The Purchasing function needs to be on top of this game by scouting and selecting new partners worldwide, capturing innovation that will bring value to our customers and developing new ways of working both with partners and with our internal stakeholders.
As Senior Buyer for Automation focusing on Software you are the reference in the Embedded Software area for the complete Electrical & Electronics team, leading and driving the business plan and development of the area. That means being responsible for the securing of that all software negotiations outputs are maximized, plus providing expertise and knowledge in market and competition analysis, costing, licensing , Intellectual property rights.
You will drive and support negotiations plus define and drive implementation of the software segment business plan and contribute to relevant product system roadmaps.
- Lead the global embedded software network
- Coach and support other buyers involved in software sourcing and negotiations with embedded software development, intellectual property, license and maintenance pricing knowledge
- Build and maintain software cost database in collaboration with Indirect Purchasing Services IT buyers
- Monitor, identify and mitigate risks in cooperation with SQ&D, Finance, Manufacturing, Engineering and Brands teams
We are looking for someone with knowledge and expertise within software and embedded systems. We also believe it is important that you have an interest and/or experience of working with software in a business-oriented environment and from a cost perspective. We also think it is important that you have:
- Bachelors or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Systems Engineering or similar software development curriculum
- Experience with Intellectual property rights, licensing models and license agreements
- Ability to comprehend, evaluate, and compare softwarew architecture, development efforts, and development tools
- A good understanding of data acquisition and network communication systems (CAN, CANOpen, Ethernet)
