Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Base Engine team, in Powertrain Engineering Curitiba, is looking for a new group member. We are seeking a motivated and qualified engineer who is looking for a challenging career opportunity as Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Powertrain Engineering is contributing to the Volvo Group's competitive position in the market place by developing and maintaining profitable systems and components in terms of quality, delivery, cost and function and that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Our scope of work includes design engineering of engines, drivelines and electromobility systems and is based on common architecture and shared technology.
Powertrain Engineering Application Center in Curitiba is responsible for leading product modification activities related to heavy duty engines covering not only the South American markets but also all markets covered by emission legislations up to Euro V as well as for supporting the global Powertrain Engineering organization on specific delegated responsibilities.
The Base Engine team is responsible for developing components such as the crank system, power cylinder unit, cylinder head and block, valve train system, coolant and lubricant pumps, etc. Our team has a strong collaboration with the other engineering centers located in Sweden, France, Japan and the U.S.A.
We plan our work according to the agile principles with good collaboration with other departments such as project management, verification and testing, quality and customer satisfaction, purchasing and manufacturing. You are encouraged to take on tasks on your own and we strive to have an open and honest environment within the team, where it is easy to ask each other for support when needed. The tasks can be either part of a large and long term projects or short ones to improve products currently in production.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading cross functionally the development of components within the Base Engine scope, either produced internally or by external suppliers. Main responsibilities are:

  • Design, documentation and knowledge management of Base Engine components;

  • Development and management of networking across the organization;

  • Definition of verification and validation plans and evaluation of test results;

  • To approve applications for either newly developed or existing systems/components;

  • To support manufacturing and customer service areas in questions related to the components;

  • Solution of quality issues

  • Evaluation of reliability levels

Education, experience, knowledge:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree in Brazil;

  • Solid experience in the development of Powertrain systems and components;

  • Ability of working with product roadmaps, in projects and with maintenance of current products at the same time;

  • Experience in developing verification methods;

  • Knowledge on analytical techniques such as root cause analysis, FMEA, quality tools, etc;

  • Experience in supplier relationship;

  • Fully proficient in English is mandatory.
