Dyno Technician

We are now looking for a Dyno Technician to join our amazing team in Chesapeake/Suffolk, Virginia.
What is the Job?
As a Dyno Technician, you will be accountable for operating and maintaining systems required for the calibration and test of EFI gasoline engines. Some of your core responsibilities will include:
  • Using existing procedures to perform calibrations on EFI gasoline engines.
  • Having a full understanding of EPA 1065.
  • Performing function tests. Reporting and documenting calibration results.
  • Performing adjustments and repairs as required to bring test equipment back into prescribed operating tolerances.
  • Having extensive, in-depth knowledge and familiarity with the equipment in use at VPA.
  • Performing advanced troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair skills, as well as Dyno system and engine troubleshooting and repair.
  • Performing engine combustion calibration steps for emission and performance.
  • Having knowledge and understanding ISO requirements for all dyno equipment and tools, as well as calibrating all dyno equipment to maintain ISO compliance.
  • Performing emission bench maintenance, calibration and repair work.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have an analytical approach to problem solving along with the ability to drive root cause analysis of problems/issues. You will also need to be able to work with minimal instruction and supervision, as well as be able to drive project assignments to full completion. In addition, excellent communication and presentation skills are necessary as is the need for fluency in speaking and writing English in order to communicate successfully with internal and external stakeholders at different levels of the organization.
This position requires core competencies and knowledge in internal combustion (IC) engine design and functionality, water brake and AC dyno functionality, IC engine fuel and ignition systems, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
A minimum of 2 years’ post high school, formal education; or, equivalent combination of education and experience is required for this position. Additionally, we require the following: 7 years’ mechanical experience on marine engines and 2-5 years’ experience as a dyno technician. It is also preferred that you have workshop experience/skills to include marine engine maintenance, welding, and electrical circuitry.
