Volvo Trucks Highlights America’s Road Team in Latest ‘Welcome to My Cab’ Video

The fourth installment of Volvo Trucks’ popular “Welcome to My Cab” video series features a very special Volvo model: the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) America’s Road Team 2015 Volvo VNL 780.

The ATA’s America’s Road Team program is led by a team of professional truck drivers – known as Captains – who have demonstrated expert driving skills and logged millions of accident-free miles. The Captains use their Volvo VNL 780, which Volvo provided as part of its exclusive sponsorship of the program, to transport a mobile classroom, Interstate One, across the country to share the importance of highway safety with thousands of students, public officials and others each year.

“Our Volvo VNL 780 is the perfect tool for us to accomplish our mission of educating the driving public about highway safety,” said America’s Road Team Captain Ralph Garcia. “The truck is equipped with a number of advanced safety features, which helps make us better, safer drivers.”

The America’s Road Team VNL 780 has several safety systems and features, including Volvo Enhanced Cruise (VEC) with Active Braking, Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology (VEST), Volvo’s Lane Departure Warning system, and LED headlights. A Volvo D13 engine powers the tractor, which is also equipped with the Volvo I-Shift automated manual transmission.

In addition to its focus on safety, the America’s Road Team program highlights the essentiality of the trucking industry, sharing how trucking professionals deliver America's freight safely, securely and on time.

“While our primary mission is safety, we also highlight the importance of the trucking industry to our economy,” said America’s Road Team Captain Derrick Whittle Sr. “Your basic needs, the things you go into the store and buy – if you got it, it got there by a truck.”

Volvo Trucks dedicated the 2015 Volvo VNL 780 model to the America’s Road Team program in early 2015 during a brief ceremony at Volvo’s New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Virginia, where all Volvo truck models for North America are assembled.
