Amra Subasic works in Volvo Penta’s global aftermarket department. She is responsible, among other things, for business development in Volvo Penta’s different engine segments, including industrial engines, marine leisure engines and marine commercial engines.
“It’s even better than I could have imagined. I have a supportive manager and great colleagues. I can structure my work to suit my own interests and I feel that I have the opportunity to grow and develop. Also, there is a lot of innovation going on in the Volvo Group at the moment. We’re looking into areas like electrification, wireless communication and automation. The company has a thorough knowledge of these subjects and also plenty of energy and enthusiasm,” she explains.
For Amra the Graduate Program is a good way of learning about herself and taking a big step forward in her future career.
“It’s a unique opportunity to get to know the organisation and the people,” she says.
Amra Subasic has an engineering degree from the industrial economics department at Chalmers University of Technology. After she finished her degree she spent some time working at Volvo Cars.
“It was interesting working in product development, but I wanted to move on,” she explains.
She soon opted for the Volvo Group’s International Graduate Program. Amra comes from Skövde and during her education she worked in the Volvo Group’s engine factory. Her experience of Volvo as an employer was very positive.
She applied to the program and was accepted. For the last few months she has been working at Volvo Penta. She is combining her job with a project for Volvo Venture Capital and activities involving the other members of the graduate program. During her year on the program she will be travelling to Bangalore in India and to Greensboro in the USA. She will also spend three months working at the Volvo Penta Chesapeake site in the USA and take part in a research project looking into different types of business models.
“It’s exciting times for the Volvo Group right now”, she says.
The graduate program lasts for a year. After that Amra is guaranteed a job within the Group. At the start of the program, all the graduates apply for a specific position and Amra thinks this is a good idea.
“I can choose a job that I’m interested in and then focus on it, which really suits me. I want to learn about the aftermarket business and the commercial challenges related to technical development. I really haven’t regretted the choice I made,” she explains.
