The Internship program took Ebba Bergbom Wallin to India. An exciting three-month internship that she’ll never forget. “Dare to apply to the program. Don’t let doubt hold you back, it will give you so much for your future,” she says.
Ebba Bergbom Wallin has a master’s degree in economics and entrepreneurship from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She heard about the Volvo Group’s International Internship Program during her studies.
“Representatives from the Group visited the School and told us about the program, which piqued my interest and spurred me to apply,” she explains.
She took a chance and applied, and she hasn’t looked back since.
“It gave me a real push forward in my career and a good route into the Volvo Group. It also gave me a large network and a tonne of experience,” she reveals.
The program offers an internship at one of the Volvo Group’s sites around the world. Ebba got to pack her bags and head off to India.
“It was just great,” she says. “I had a position at the Volvo Group University and got the chance to implement a project that involved, among other things, budget analyses. I was working in the heart of the bustling city of Bangalore and was lucky enough to be involved in a heap of amazing experiences. It was an adventure, and at the same time an opportunity to learn about the company,” she says, before describing the immensity of the impact that the culture, the country and the friendly people had on her.
During her internship, she also seized the opportunity to experience India in her free time, including visiting temples and nature parks.
Following her internship, Ebba decided she wanted to continue working in the Volvo Group.
“This is my kind of workplace: an exciting, innovative vehicle manufacturer that’s right at the cutting edge. Given how big and global the Group is, I can also see lots of opportunities for me to develop,” she enthuses.
After her studies, Ebba therefore applied to the Volvo Group International Graduate Program.
“To my great delight, I was accepted, and my first post will involve the procurement of engine parts at Volvo Trucks. The engine is a key and important part of this Group, so I’m really looking forward to it,” she says.
Looking forward, Ebba wants to help make an impact.
“I want to be involved in new solutions and new ideas to drive the Volvo Group forward,” she concludes.
Volvo Group International Internship Program
The Volvo Group International Internship Program is an exclusive program where the Volvo Group offers students the opportunity of an internship. The students come from the nine selected universities around the world that are members of the Group’s Academic Partner Program (APP).
Ahead of the next internship period – 2018 – the number of places has been expanded from 20 to 30 in total. That is a result of the significant recruitment needs that the Group has at present. The ten extra places open up opportunities to also recruit students in countries and at universities that are not involved in the APP.
The Volvo Group currently offers two trainee programs:
the International Graduate Program and the more technically-focused Engineering Graduate Program.
Both programs sandwich work, training, job rotations and study visits to a number of the Group’s sites. After the trainee year, participants continue to work within different parts of the Group.
