How did you find out about the program?
We had the opportunity to meet a number of different companies at my university. I’d already had some contact with Volvo Group and entered into discussions with them about the possibility of doing some of my thesis research there.

What were you studying, and where?
I was studying for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science at the University of Skövde, in Sweden.

What were your goals in taking part in the program?
I wanted to get an insight into what it’s like working at Volvo Group and gather material for my thesis.

What were your impressions of Volvo Group when you first started?
That it’s a great place! Everyone was really helpful. We were a group of three people and didn’t know, at first, what direction our research would take. That was something we determined as our work progressed.

What area were you working in and researching?
Event sourcing.

What was the most rewarding aspect of your time on the thesis program?
It was an opportunity to put what I was learning into a practical context. I found it very useful to see other developers at work and experience the day-to-day work for the IT staff at Volvo Group.

Was it easy to get access to the people you wanted to talk to?
Yes, absolutely. We were sitting right alongside the people who could provide us with the information we needed.

How was the experience on a day-to-day level? Were you on-site often?
We were there everyday, apart from when we had other university commitments.

What support do you get in writing your thesis?
We received tips on how to plan and prepare it – how to map it out and organize the themes.

What are your long-term professional goals?
I’m not totally sure yet, but my current aim is to work in software development. I enjoyed writing my thesis with Volvo Group and right now it feels good to be back again, working as a consultant.
