If you are up for the challenge of developing the next generation of production plants and want to be a part of the innovative world of Volvo Group, this is the graduate program for you!
During 15 intense and exciting months, the program will give you a holistic view of the Volvo Group’s global truck manufacturing organization. You will get to know our different brands and their plants and learn about our logistics organizations and activities. You will take a deep dive into some specific areas of our business such as manufacturing, health and safety, quality, and continuous improvements, while also learning about the end to end supply chain, aftermarket parts, and our remanufacturing operations.
In parallel, you will grow as a person, through individual and team development sessions. You will have a permanent position from day one, with a manager and mentor to support you. You will experience several “on-the-job” rotations and have the opportunity to work on real project assignments. In addition, you will join a number of learning modules where you get together with other program participants to take part in trainings and events designed to help you grow into your future career at the Volvo Group.
Our organization:
The Lehigh Valley plant is responsible to produce Mack trucks for North American customers and export markets. As part of that, the Manufacturing Engineering Team is responsible for defining and optimizing the Assembly Operation processes of all Mack trucks. Our highly motivated manufacturing engineering team drives new technologies into our existing assembly processes to ensure our products' safety, quality, and delivery. As a part of this larger group, your team focuses on emerging and advanced technologies that will help support our factory to meet challenges, such as electromobility, that are currently facing the transportation industry. We have just completed the biggest transformation since the existence of our plant, called Mack Reborn, but we aren’t stopping there. To take the next leap, our team learns and develops new technologies to meet the specific needs of our factory today and help ensure we are ready for the products of tomorrow. These new technologies will help drive our industry 4.0 transformation, integrating existing operating infrastructure with next generation systems, processes and tools. We have the freedom to explore emerging technologies, challenge the current limitations, implement proof of concepts, and build upon our successes and failures. We challenge each other and strive for continuous improvement while maintaining a balance by working hard and having fun.
Job Description: 
The purpose of the position is to have advanced the skill area of automation and product verification with growing needs in industrial automation and product automation you will be responsible to develop and implement solutions for industrialization to secure the world-class quality of our products and delivering operational excellence in industrial operation at the same time.
You will also be developing the future manufacturing technologies concerning Volvo Group's journey in emerging technology. You will support the Manufacturing Engineering Technology development team to develop their roadmap and technology transformation. In that perspective, you will prepare the implementation of the Product and Process changes with the operational teams in the plants and you will interact with Volvo Group Design departments.
And eventually, you will participate in our journey to reach Excellence by developing the Mack Production System in the Engineering environment. You are expected to think out of the box to bring moon-shot ideas to benefit to bring business values through innovation and technology. Support, maintain, and continuously improve the Automation system (PLC, Robotics, and AGVs) and develop production processes according to the global GTO standards and best practices, to meet plant KPI’s.  
Main activities and responsibilities:
  • Drive technology development roadmap in the automation and product verification area.
  • Serve as proficiency area leader owner in the Robotics, PLCs, AGVs, sensors, and product verification ESW area. 
  • Maintain the production methods, standards, tooling and equipment for robotics, PLC, AGVs, sensors, and ESW.
  • Active participation in Global networks, escalate plants needs to the network. 
  • Assist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting with implemented technology & systems. Develop and plan competence development for maintenance technicians. 
  • Troubleshoot software, electronic and electrical equipment-related issues, discovered during the assembly process. 
  • Promote industrial safety and efficiency through the implementation of method/process change, ergonomic application, and safety awareness.
  • Develop cost-saving proposals. Tap on emerging technology trends to bring them to our factory to solve more comprehensive problems.
  • Develop synergies with other competence areas of AI and ML/ Electromobility / IIOT to find a more collaborative solution for our factory.

Who are you?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering or Mechatronics engineering or related field
  • Maximum two years of previous working experience, before or after graduation.
  • To be a communicative team player with the ambition to develop both yourself and the business that you are working in
  • Exposure to advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 traits AI, Machine learning, Digitalization, Automation, Smart sensors, Embedded software, Electromobility.
