The Volvo truck plant in Tuve produces frame rails for truck chassis in an automated process that uses roll forming, punching, plasma cutting and surface treatment to manufacture a unique set of frame rails for each truck.
There is a wish to automatically detect deviations in surface treatment, frame rail shape and the position of holes. Due to the high variation of the products, it is not feasible to in advance define exactly each possible position of an error. Therefore, the plan is to use a vision system combined with machine learning to locate deviations.
- Collaborate with our technology supplier to create a process for verification using cameras and machine learning algorithms.
- Evaluate where in the process it is suitable to perform the verification.
- Proof of concept: Demonstrate what deviations the new process will find.
