Utilization of process information to gain predictability /profitability and reduce losses
This thesis work is both in the practical field of data collection, analysis and presentation, and also about how the organization are utilizing the opportunities and if there can be identified improvements to be done.
The purpose of the thesis work is to create a method to make use of available data from our process systems. It includes collecting data and connecting the gathered data with the process behavior, identify, design and utilize an algorithm that can model the process and either predict its output or adapt the controls, so the target values are reached.
It includes hereby identifying opportunities to anticipate quality defects, unplanned stops, disruptions and breakdowns. A very important aspect is to address the organizational aspect, e.g. roles, responsibilities and competence needed to use the suggested systems and methods. It also includes to identify prerequisites e.g. requirements on data quality. In the thesis work the method to collect, analyze and create basis for decisions is created. The result is to be used by different stakeholders, like manufacturing and maintenance engineers and managers, to support them in decision making such as process standards, training and equipment investments.
Volvo CE is combining lean and industry 4.0 in an initiative called Factory 4 Tomorrow. All employees have the possibility to contribute with their creativity to find good solutions. The roadmap consists of four main blocks; smart governance and strategy, connected manufacturing, virtual manufacturing and autonomous manufacturing. This thesis work will contribute mainly to the first two areas. The result will be spread to the other 13 plants through the global Maintenance network as well as the network for Factory 4 Tomorrow.
