Carrier Management Specialist

Group Trucks Operations encompasses all production of the Group’s engines and transmissions as well as all production of Volvo, Renault, Mack and UD trucks. Group Trucks Operations also includes spare parts supplies to the Group’s customers as well as logistics.

Service Market Logistics (SML) is part of Group Trucks Operations. We have over 10,000 employees on more than 80 locations world-wide. Our job is to design, handle and optimize the supply chain for all Volvo Group brands and for selected customers within the automotive industry. The scope for Logistics Services includes making sure that management of material, warehouses and distribution ensures the availability of parts everywhere in the world. We make sure all service market logistics are delivered with world class operational excellence.

SML North America is a part of SML and manages logistics and delivery functions throughout North America (Canada, USA and Mexico).

What is the job?
As a Carrier Management Specialist, you will leverage Lean principles, operational and cost analysis and a keen attention to detail to ensure carrier performance is compliant to contracts and agreements. You will help drive continuous improvement in the areas of cost-effectiveness and environment consciousness. You’ll set, agree and communicate goals, standards and performance expectations in an open, straightforward and easily understandable way.

What will your day-to-day look like?
You will monitor booking, pickup, transport and deliver of parts through the use of manual transport management systems. You will monitor results against set objectives and improve to ensure continued customer success, while applying a preventative and proactive approach. You will support the annual transport tender process to optimize and kick off new transport operations.

How is success measured?

KPIs for this role are based on targets related to Carrier Service SOP and contractual agreement levels, Transport Management System performance, pickup and delivery precision and more. You will also impact the business through continuous improvement activities, measured through Transport mode freight costs.

Who are you?
Ideally, you hold a BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Engineering or Business (although equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree), have 3 or more years of experience in logistics and/or warehouse facilities and certification in Six Sigma or Lean. At minimum, you will have 2-3 years of relevant experience in logistics/warehousing and Lean activities, as well as an intermediate or advanced ability to apply Power BI, Excel, Visio and Microsoft 365 to the position. You will also bring industry knowledge to the team, particularly in the areas of transport industry laws and regulations, mode of transports and the rules and regulations related to customs.
