Carrier Supplier Management Specialist

The Carrier/Supplier Management Specialist performs their work in the North America Transport Material team as the operational support team within Production Logistics North American Transport Operations. You’ll be expected to apply your knowledge and skills to secure a high level of service performance from our transport carriers and material suppliers. Additionally, you’ll be expected to utilize a set of robust metrics/analytics for measuring the service levels and transitioning this data into lean problem-solving methodologies for improving unsatisfactory levels where required.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Utilizing our Critical Logistics List, lead and drive all activities related to improving carrier service levels aligned with our purchasing contracts.
  • Secure high level of adherence to Volvo transport instructions by Material Suppliers. Lead and drive the full utilization of Atlas within our Material supply base.
  • Resolution of structural/performance problems within the transport carriers/suppliers, utilizing a set of robust metrics along with lean problem-solving techniques to drive improvement activities with carrier service levels and material supplier adherence to Volvo transport instructions/tools.
  • Utilizing a set of fact-based robust metrics for making recommendations on carrier changes for the poor performing carriers.
  • Make operational decisions based on facts, cost/loss ratios and sound business judgement to deliver agreed service level to the customer.
  • Work closely with Logistics Purchasing to secure the correct level of service is used in the sourcing process.

  • Secure with carrier support during holiday, carrier capacity and holiday planning. Actively collect and search information about planned (i.e., National Holidays) and unplanned (i.e., strike) disturbances within the transport network.

Education, Skills & Experience:
  • BS degree in Logistics or Business preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years logistics and/or transportation experience
  • Proficient experience in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a high stress, cross functional team environment
  • Analytical skills with the ability to recognize patterns in data, information, or events and drawing logical conclusions from this data to initiate corrective actions.
