The North America Purchasing team is an organization within Group Purchasing supporting Volvo Trucks North America and Mack brands on the purchasing related activities both on automotive and indirect purchasing.

Our aim is to grow a more diverse and sustainable supply partner network to advance our transformation. As Supplier Diversity Manager, you will support Volvo Group’s commitment to source direct and indirect materials, investments, services and solutions from diverse suppliers and small businesses. This role will partner closely with the global and regional sourcing managers, segment leaders, business stakeholders and Responsible Purchasing to continue to find best in class diverse suppliers and small businesses to support our Group’s business needs.

Reporting To: Head of Volvo Group Purchasing North America

Location: Greensboro, NC

Main Responsibilities

  • Build and support initiatives, projects, policies, and processes that drive the advancement of supplier diversity spend and growth opportunities for diverse business enterprises and small business across Volvo Group
  • Partner across Volvo Group Purchasing and the supplier diversity and small business network to discover and qualify potential diverse suppliers for the Volvo Group
  • Support the vetting of supplier diversity certification, supplier capability reviews, supplier to stakeholder introductions, and matching supplier capabilities to company needs
  • Support the development, onboarding, and readiness program for diverse and small business suppliers to ensure long-term relationship with Volvo Group
  • Represent Volvo Group Purchasing and participate in community facing outreach programs and events in partnership with diversity national and small business organizations
  • Improve and maintain supplier diversity and small business content and communication channels (internal and external) together with Communications and Responsible Purchasing
  • Collaborate with Volvo Group Purchasing Communication and Responsible Purchasing strategic line to advance Purchasing’s sustainability initiatives in our supply network
  • Manage supplier diversity and small business spend metrics, contractual commitments and report results to external organizations and internal stakeholders
  • Assure compliance with all government and regulatory requirements
  • Support and educate stakeholders on supplier diversity and small business
  • Work in accordance with the Volvo Group processes, the Code of Conduct and the Volvo Group Values
Competence and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Communications, or Human Resources
  • Minimum 5 years of business experience in the field of procurement, diversity, equity & inclusion, small business and government contracts, and/or relevant business operations, or a combination of higher education and 5+ years of Supplier Diversity experience
  • Experience developing or supporting a Supplier Diversity program or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives is preferred
  • Demonstrative experience in providing strategy and thought leadership within areas of Procurement, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, or general business program operations
  • Able to execute in a global matrix organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to distill and deliver complex, ambiguous information to a variety of audiences
  • Reporting and data analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Adept problem solver with solid judgement
  • Ability to persuade others through indirect influence

  • Represent Supplier Diversity in the Leadership Team of Volvo Group Purchasing North America
    Represent Supplier Diversity in cross-functional decision bodies
