Application Engineer

Volvo Group Australia is currently seeking an Application Engineer to join our Group Truck Technology (GTT) organisation. GTT Australia is part of the global Special Vehicle Development organisation that consists of a dedicated and multi- talented team whose mission is to provide customised and niche vehicles to our customers in Australia and New Zealand. Our engaged teams support the business development of our brands on a local basis in 12 sites around the world. Driven by the lean development spirit we are focused on time to market excellence to develop unique customised selling points. Our performance is based on agility to use specific development processes to fit customer needs.

As the Application Engineer, you will provide day to day application engineering services to the Mack, UD and Volvo Sales organisation and our multi branded dealer network to ensure the correct application of our products meet our customer’s needs. The Application Engineer also has a key role in defining vehicle build specifications when significant customer adaptations are required. Key challenges in the role will be to act efficiently, proactively and pragmatically to understand the customer’s needs and propose the optimum specification from our product offer to fulfill the customer’s needs. Therefore, to be successful in this role, you must have a technical understanding of our brands product, be open minded and understand our customer’s application needs.

About the Role
  • Application Engineering and Technical support to sales, field and factory
  • Provide application engineering (best product spec for the job) to sales, internal and external
  • Provide filed support for PBS (performance-based standard)
  • Provide vehicle weight distribution and vehicle performance support and training
  • Review and application approval for customer adaptation requests
  • Vehicle body builder support (2D drawings and technical guidance)
  • Provide guidance and documentation to support non-standard vehicle ratings
  • Co-ordination of vehicle application and load ratings
  • Technical sales support representation at sales and marketing events
  • Creation and/or review of technical documents (body installation manuals, vehicle specifications etc)
About You:
  • Recent graduate or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • Prior work experience in the heavy vehicle industry is advantageous but not essential
  • Previous experience dealing in applications engineering is preferable although not essential
  • Product knowledge of heavy vehicle is highly preferred although not essential
  • Competent computer skills, in particular with 2D CAD or 3D CAD would be advantageous but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Good personal organisational and planning skills
  • Pro-active mind-set and approach
  • Self-driven with delivery and problem solving mind-set
  • Commercial Vehicle driver’s license would be beneficial but not a pre-requisite.
