Intern: Manufacturing Engineering - Assembly (Summer 2024)

The internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to support/promote the student’s career goals through contact with professionals in their field of study. The experience enables students to participate in professional activities for both Volvo Construction Equipment, SHP and Volvo Group by working on important and innovative projects alongside our full-time professionals, allowing the student to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to them and the organization.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Complete various data entry and analysis tasks to provide information for the management team
  • Develop and update assembly processes (e.g., Manufacturing Check List, Quality Inspection, Work Instructions, etc.)
  • Drive special projects related to assembly improvements (e.g., Andon, Line Balancing, Reduction of Defects, Waste Elimination, etc.)
  • Participate in tooling development to improve our processes
  • Update and improve layout using CAD
  • Work actively to support our engineering group on continuous improvement tasks
  • Work directly with the IT department to replace and add new IT equipment for the assembly areas

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • The candidate will be enrolled and pursuing a degree in Engineering (e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, etc.) at an accredited university
  • The candidate will have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours prior to the start of the internship
  • The candidate will maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.75

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
