Position Description

We are Product Finance Engineering within Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT). We are supporting the VOLVO group mission by driving profitability through product cost management excellence, delivering engineered, and accurate product cost calculations to ensure customer success.

Material Cost Evolution Controller

The Controlling & Strategy organization is looking for a new colleague in Greensboro to support both Vehicle and Powertrain cost control.

One of Volvo’s important measures to ensure the company’s profitability is to follow and forecast the product cost of our vehicles/components. This analysis is performed by our Material Cost Evolution (MCE) Controllers. You will collaborate within GTX to gather and understand the cost impact of changes in products; and then report back your analysis and follow up on further actions. By being a part of the global MCE community, you help Volvo Group Trucks keep an eye on our future success.

Responsibilities

  • You provide monthly reports for the part price evolutions on purchased material of the decided ARV's (Actual Reference Vehicle/Product).

  • Provide quarterly reporting for the part price evolution on purchased materials to the Engineering leadership related to technical changes.

  • Analyze, highlight issues, abnormalities, and address corrective actions in the variances of actual price/material cost compared to previous month.

  • Maintain the ARV Bill of Materials monthly, in accordance with technical, feature, regulation and other changes.

  • Support a strong collaboration with Purchasing controlling and Group Trucks Operations Standard Cost of Sales team.

  • Collaborate globally with the MCE community to continuously improve MCE processes, tools, and skills. Develop and maintain MCE knowledge sharing.

  • Support Product Finance Engineering teammates and Finance Project Managers in product cost variance analysis

  • Support Product Cost Roadmap activities

  • Provide bridge explanation to GTO on purchase material between standard cost of sales years

  • Work in accordance with GTT processes and the Volvo Group values

You will have the authority to:

  • Deliver material cost actual forecast for ARV's (Actual Reference Vehicle/Product)

  • Decide in which category a cost change should be classified according to the current rules

  • Decide the time plan for input from various roles (review and submission of input in order to be ready at the agreed dates of monthly or yearly)

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS degree required; MS degree preferred

  • 2-5 years Engineering, Purchasing, and/or product cost management experience preferred

  • Very good knowledge in the principles for vehicle/product structure and the bill of material

  • Very good ability to understand and analyze a great number of data and give relevant information

  • Very good ability to analyze, identify and explain the key messages to customers

  • Ability to create networks and to lead cross-functional activities within multi-cultural teams

  • Good English oral and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and synthesizing skills. Uses structured approach with good analytical skills and logical thinking

  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills

  • Strong continuous improvement skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently
