Specialist System Design Engineer

Responsibilities:
  • Implement system architecture strategies and roadmaps up to the delivery in the end product.
  • Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps and system architecture roadmaps.
  • Design electrical and electronics systems by identifying the purpose and aim of the system, the component interface, and system behaviors.
  • Delivers according to defined methods, expected inputs and outputs.
  • Lead system engineering in a technical team and play an active role in the delivery.
  • Lead concept investigation with teams and take the concept for approval through different decision forums.
  • Request technical concepts and system solutions. Manage the interfaces and non-functional requirements within the scope of, for example, agile release train.
  • Steer exploration of alternatives to establish a system level concept together with teams.
  • Drive the work from an operational and short-term perspective. Integrate deliveries from others.
  • Responsibility for securing quality and readiness before release.
  • Participate in specification implementation and verification loops to secure system aspects of the solution.
  • Secure that system and non-functional requirements are correctly implemented.
  • Investigating system level or truck level issues and providing right solutions.
  • Actively support product manager in clarifying needs of capabilities/enablers and breaking down those to features/enablers.
  • Review System level concepts with Component Owner’s (CO) and Function Owner’s (FO).
  • Understanding the ECU state flow machine and the behavior of the system in different vehicle modes.
  • Documenting of Software requirements, use cases, application network requirements etc, in system engineering tool.
  • Analyse project and technical needs and lead development of ECUs such as Battery Power Management Unit.
  • Lead critical issues problem solving in collaboration with the supplier’s and within the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement on tools, work methods and the development process
Competencies:
On Specialist level the employee is a specialist in System Design Engineering typically obtained through education and work experience.
  • BE/B.Tech., ME/M.Tech in Electrical-, Electronics Engg (or similar) with 8 years or more of experience in Automotive Electrical domain.
  • Leading on complex group tasks/projects and actively developing team members.
  • Role model of cutting edge thinking and an established contributor to lifelong learning within the TD/BA as a master trainer, coach and/or mentor.
  • Solid Tshaped profile with definable expert knowledge within broadbased allround toolkit.
  • Demonstrable influencer within the Volvo Group network.
  • Clear articulation of how he/she is creating value to the respective TD/BA beyond their part of the organization.
  • System knowledge on power management related components such as Battery Power Management systems, Alternators, Battery sensors, Batteries, Starter motors, Ultra-Capacitors, etc.
  • Work experience as a System Leader / System architect on start cost projects right from project requirements stage upto product launch stage in automotive domain.
  • Hands-on experience in Function development in the field of System Engineering on automotive domain.
  • Knowledge in Application software development and diagnostics.
  • Working Knowledge on Functional Safety (ISO26262), CyberSecurity, SFMEA and other quality tools.
  • Should have awareness on the application networks, ECU topologies, vehicle schematics, power distribution & grounding topologies.
  • Define and balance all the requirements to be considered in the development of the power management components to ensure maximum commonality.
  • Familiarity with toolchains like JIRA, Confluence and other PLM tools is a merit.
  • Working Knowledge on Internal Combustion Engine, Battery Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric vehicles.
  • Good understanding of automotive electrical systems and architecture.
  • Knowledge on current and upcoming vehicle regulations and emission norms.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English.
