Co-op: Continuous Improvement (Spring 2024)

The purpose of this internship is to allow the student to prepare for their future by applying what was learned during coursework (theory, skill development, professionalism) to the working world. Students will be provided extensive hands-on experience in their field of study. The intern will work on important and innovative projects alongside our experienced staff and engineers.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Work with other departments to implement product and process changes
  • Promotes, engineers and helps implement efficient and reliable Lean Manufacturing processes to guarantee efficient movement and delivery of materials and increase productivity and quality in station in support of production rates
  • Develops training material and assists in delivery of training sessions and workshops to all levels in the organization
  • Continuously drives culture change and acceptance of Lean Manufacturing principles across the organization by communicating and demonstrating the values and practicality of continuous improvement
  • Collaborates with operations to improve processes and evaluate and take action regarding day to day material, logistics, and build issues impacting the productions lines
  • Frequently follows up with appropriate stakeholders to ensure timely and effective implementation and sustainability
  • Support training session of Lean Manufacturing tools and/or Mini Truck Training;
  • Do Kaizen to improve the assembly process (leader)

  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Excel, Power Point, Word and AutoCad
  • Ability to react to issues impacting production with a sense of urgency, promptly assessing the issue and developing a feasible action plan and following it through to successful completion
  • Thrives in a team-based environment
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree and remain fully enrolled in program during the duration of the co-op
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Prefer a motivated Junior or Senior in good academic standing
  • Students may work up to 40 hours per week during the semester

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
